Timeline

After two and a half years of training away from the village, Naruto returns to Konoha stronger than ever. He reunites with Sakura, Kakashi and the rest of Team 7, and finds that his old friends have grown into capable shinobi in his absence. He soon learns that the Akatsuki, a secretive organization of powerful rogue ninja, is hunting the jinchuriki, the hosts of the tailed beasts. As the Nine-Tails’ host, Naruto realizes he is their ultimate target, and a new, more dangerous chapter of his journey begins.

Akatsuki members Sasori and Deidara infiltrate the Hidden Sand Village and capture the Kazekage, Gaara, whom they need for the One-Tail within him. Naruto and Team Kakashi race to the rescue, joined by Sand shinobi who fight to protect their leader. In a fierce battle against Sasori, the elderly Chiyo, his own grandmother, takes part, and Sakura proves how far her skills have come. Gaara’s tailed beast is extracted and he dies, until Chiyo sacrifices her own life to bring him back. The mission leaves a lasting bond between Naruto and Gaara, and a new respect between Konoha and Sand.

Sasuke defeats Orochimaru, absorbs his power, and forms Team Hebi to hunt his brother Itachi. Having broken free of his old master, he is determined to settle the score that has driven him since childhood. The duel with Itachi is bloody and intense, and in its aftermath Sasuke learns the truth about Itachi’s past and the sacrifices he made for Konoha and the Uchiha clan. Instead of finding peace, Sasuke turns his hatred toward Konoha itself, and joins the Akatsuki’s cause by choice rather than by chance.

Asuma Sarutobi, a respected jonin and Team 10’s sensei, is killed in battle by the immortal Hidan and the relentless Kakuzu of the Akatsuki. His death shakes the village and his students deeply. Shikamaru, Ino and Choji, grieving but determined, team up with Kakashi to track down the pair and avenge him. Through clever strategy and sheer perseverance, they find a way to overcome the seemingly unbeatable duo, and Shikamaru’s leadership shines through as he turns his loss into resolve.

Pain, the leader of the Akatsuki, launches an all-out assault on Konoha in search of the Nine-Tails. With the Six Paths of Pain at his command, he overwhelms the village’s defenders and leaves much of Konoha in ruins. Naruto, returning from his Sage Mode training, confronts Pain in a desperate fight to protect everything he loves. In the end, Naruto’s words about breaking the cycle of hatred reach Nagato, the man behind Pain, who chooses to use his last strength to revive the fallen villagers and end the attack. Naruto is hailed as a hero by the village that once shunned him.

The five Kage gather for a summit to decide how to deal with Sasuke and the Akatsuki, as tensions between the great nations run high. Each leader brings their own opinions, fears and agendas to the table, and the debate over Sasuke’s fate grows heated. The meeting is interrupted by Sasuke himself, who storms in to confront the Kage. Faced with the gravity of the threat, the leaders agree they can no longer stand divided, laying the groundwork for an unprecedented alliance among the shinobi nations.

The Fourth Great Ninja War begins as the Allied Shinobi Forces stand against Madara Uchiha and his resurrected army of fallen warriors. Shinobi from every nation fight side by side, putting aside old grudges to defend the world. Naruto and Killer B are kept safe on a hidden island, since the enemy wants their tailed beasts, while the fighting rages across the continent. Even from afar, Naruto struggles with being kept from the front lines while his friends fight and fall, and he resolves to join them.

The war reaches its turning point when Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura reunite to confront the masked man behind the plan. Together with Kakashi, they fight to stop an enemy who seems to have the upper hand at every turn. The Infinite Tsukuyomi puts the entire world under a genjutsu, trapping everyone in a dream, until the Ten-Tails and Kaguya, the origin of the chaos, are sealed away at last. The reunited Team 7 stands victorious, though the cost of the war weighs heavily on everyone who survived it.

With the war over, Naruto and Sasuke settle their long rivalry in a final duel at the Valley of the End, the same place where they once clashed years before. The battle is raw and exhausting, pushing both to their absolute limits. Both lose an arm, but through their fight they finally understand each other’s pain and convictions. Sasuke, having accepted his past, leaves Konoha on a journey of redemption, while Naruto remains certain that their bond will never be broken.
